Simon Kotowicz
Freelance Avid Media Composer Editor

Media Composer Keyboard Avid Media Composer is the current industry standard, offering a robust multi-editor, shared-storage environment. I have many years of broadcast industry experience, editing programmes using Media Composer and finishing and grading using Avid Symphony.

Offline Editor of Factual Programmes

My experience covers a wide range of genres, but the majority of work I do is factual and factual entertainment. In 2015 I worked on Egyptian Vice for Spike, featuring dramatised scenes of Egyptian debauchery, intercut with CGI and talking-heads. I was also an editor on Ancient Impossible for A+E Networks' H2 channel. This ten part series covered incredible inventions of ancient times that are simply baffling to us today and included dramatised scenes of ancient civilisations, international expert interviews, archive, reconstructions and CGI.

I then edited Mae Gan Glanaethwy Dalent, a fast-turnaround current affairs show for ITV Wales about the Britain's Got Talent Welsh choir runners-up.

2015 finished-off with me working on What Britain Bought 2015, Channel 4's end of year review of the year's events and how they linked to our shopping habits, presented by Mary Portas.

Music, Quiz Shows and Multi-camera Editing

But it's not all factual. In the run-up to the centenary of Ireland's Easter Rising I edited The Bloody Irish!, a multi-camera recording of the stage musical, broadcast on PBS.

Celebrity panel shows also feature in my credit list, with 8 Out of 10 Cats on Channel 4 and Blink!, a celebrity music quiz featured on Channel 4's Music on 4 slot.

Drama Editing and Assistant Editing

I have been the editor for numerous episodes of Hollyoaks and cut short films. I have worked as an assistant editor on TV dramas, including Holby City and Poirot

I also have feature film first assistant editor experience on Wild About Harry and supporting and trouble-shooting the post-production of many features, including The Borrowers, The Avengers, Event Horizon and Saving Grace.

I have extensive knowledge of post-production workflows for dramas and features. In classic 35mm film post, I have experience of dealing with opticals, digital intermediates, interpos, interneg, cutlists, etc.

On drama productions shooting digitally I've helped set up DIT-to-Edit workflows using Arri Alexa and Red files and developed the one-hour-conform whilst working as conform manager for ITV Studios' Lightfields, Marple and Poirot and Tiger Aspect's The Spa.
